Finally!!! OMG, I can't believe I actually finished it! Believe me, it was starting to become a headache. LOL, I started obsessing the past few weeks and haven't had any time to be on DA since I just wanted to finish it and get it over with. Not that building it wasn't fun or anything, it just feels awesome having it done!

I hope you all enjoy playing it, but admittedly, there isn't much substance to it. Consider this like a 'pilot' flash game, if the response is good and you guys like it, I may make more, larger games in the future. But be honest with me. Tell me things you'd like to see, things you'd change, etc.

There were a few problems I ran into, such as a lot of objects and movements don't carry the sounds they originally did since it slowed down flash to the point I had to take most the sounds out. On top of that, all the 'black' areas in the boards you see are there to mask the background without putting a severe load on your CPU, since flash is quite CPU intensive. Also, if you changing the game quality in the 'options' menu will drastically effect the frame rate on slower computers. However, it may cause glitches within the game having it turned down too low, so I'd keep it on 'high' and deal with a slower frame rate just to be safe.

Well, the game is called "Thalos" which is the name of the island as well as an evil philosophy professor I once had. It's a cool name, so I thought I'd use it. Anyway, you play as 'naomi' the jackal and clear her village's temple of baddies.

Buttons are as follows:

UP: jump

RIGHT: move right

LEFT: move left

SHIFT: place power cells in elevators

A: block

S: attack

D: activate elevators

F: use health booster

W: fire attack (requires fire tokens)

SPACE: toggle stats display

So um... yeah! That's about it. Enjoy playing!

All music copyrighted 'cusco' and used without permission.

EDIT: WOW! I had no idea how slowly it would run in a browser window. I would suggest downloading it and playing it in the flash player console instead of the browser. Performance will be greatly improved.

but i was wondering if you'd mind telling me where you learned to make games like these? i've been dying to make a flash game since i learned to animate. :excited:

great choice of music too, its light and happy and not annoying at all. :)

...it might also be a good idea to ask you what version of flash you use? :slow:

Neat. I'm not much of a 2-D kinda person but this is better than alot of stuff on dA XD

My suggestions: If any more characters are animals it might be a good idea to give them attacks and powers based on species? Like skunks shoot fules and foxes are fast and stuff? Also, the method of fighting's a little boring. Why ot make it so you jst jump on an enemy and be done with it? And some form of flying would be fun...

I dunno if you'd noticed, btw, what with how hard you worked on much bigger aspects of the game, but your fox has no tail. XD And it's hard to not get hit by enemies. Kind of a pain.

Thank you very much for the critique! Haha! This game is kinda old and now I look back on it, it's a bit embarrassing :P I agree with everything you said, and the game I am in the process of developing now will be FAR better. The problem at the time was, I didn't really know how I wanted everything to work, how I wanted the game to play and so on. Most those bugs have been stamped out though... especially since I'm making the jump into 3D.

If you're interested, this is some (definitely not all) of the stuff I've done on it so far:

Hi dude ! Your game is great ! I love the moves

Actually I'm searching for some actionscript commands. I would like to know if there's a site somewhere who got all the commands. Or did you get a .fla with actions already written as an example ?

I'm trying to create my own game and I know some 'skip to scene' command but I wanted to know how to program the keys and character movements.

You don't know hom much you could be helpful to me ! If you agree to gave me some tips I'll kiss you in return.

This is a beautiful side scroller game. The music really matches the environment and she is very neatly drawn. (Well I assume it's she because she has a bra : D)

Great job. I LOVE seeing good flash games made by people over the internet!!!

(by the way just for your interest, I've been on actionscript 2.0 for quite a long time... Tell me how long you've been practising! You impressed me with this)

Advanced critique:
1. I found attacking the ridiculously large ants hard at first! I thought the swinging action was meant to scratch them open from beneath. It was actually the thrust that hurts them.
2. I suggest you speed up the weapon swing before the actual thrust.
3. It'd be cooler if you can attack while moving, but that's just a minor suggestion.

Good job! I mean it! >: D

Man, thank you so much!!! It is very encouraging to hear you liked it! Haha! To be honset, when I made this, I didn't know all that much about flash, especially compared to what I know now, so it could have been a lot better had I done it now. Thank you very much for the critique as well! I appreciate any advice because it can't ever hurt, it can only make the game better! There were honestly a lot of problems with this and looking back, I wish I had spent more time doing the programming and art. But hey, at least I have a chance to remedy the situation ;) I am re-making it in DirectX and C++ with a really in-depth story. Here are a few objects I've made so far: [link]

But before I decided to make it 3D, I was actually planning to remake it in AS2. I actually coded an entire engine with advanced shape-specific hit detection... then gave up on it. Haha! But if it would help you along to have the code, I don't mind sharing. Oh! And to answer your question, I started learning flash in 2002 and just played with it off and on until I made this. Thank you again though! I am very glad you enjoyed it! And let me say, if you liked this, you will LOVE my new game :D

Oohh... Sounds extra cool. When you mention 3-D, then it's a whole dimension greater than 2-D. You're right -- I will probably be amazed by the newer game.

Plus -- Seeing how people code games and then understanding what is going on it good to boost experience, it's just like observing other people's art to start drawing better.

About the objects you've done in 3-D, I like, I like. In 3-D, will you later on add a physics engine and stuff for objects? Are you going to be a team of programmers to carry out the work, or are you going to act as the lone wolf? :XD:

I'm not really into gaming as a consumer/player anymore, but I am looking to take several of my productions concepts for print/webcomic and graphic novels to gaming - Flash preferred - in the future. I like complexity, diversity, player customizability, plot and logic/problem solving. Ty the Tasmanian Tiger was a secondhand title I got for Nintendo handheld and really liked, though it's gameplay on Nin-hand could have used some revamping.

I'm looking to touch the Racing, Action/Adventure, Space Shooter, First person foot shooter and physical combat genres, all of which fall well under one franchise I have concepted in the Anthro genre. MMORPG is a ken interest for me too, as it will fit one of my Universe very well...

Hope all goes well for you in what you are doing now. You certainly have skill...

If you ever want a conceptionist/writer for a smaller private production - non or commercial - please drop me a Note. I could use the break and I think you would find me worth your time...

Sounds killer! I never actually played Ty on the hand held, but I must say, the version on the PS2 was great! Well, the first game anyway. The sequels.... not so much, haha! It sounds like you really have a lot thought out with your game concepts, it would be nice to get them made into something tangible, or at least pitch them to a few publishers to see if you can get some funding. Couldn't hurt to try! :D Thank you very much for your encouragement as well, I very much appreciate it! This game is pretty low-end compared to what I can do now... I am doing a fully 3D platformer in DirectX and C++ [link]

This project actually started as a simple flash game and just continuously became more complex until it turned into that haha! Oops! But, point being, I actually wrote a flash engine FAR more competent than the one displayed here... so I dunno, if you want it, drop me a line. I don't mind sharing code if it helps other aspiring game creators. Thank you very much for your offer, btw! I will definitely keep that in mind, as I have many MANY games in mind I want to get published after this first one. Thanks again!

I'm a very serious conceptionist and I am currently investng in concept arts and such for the Tactical Combat Racing genre game. I will pitch it when I have a good visual reference cross-section... But I really don't think any developer/publisher will go for it, as it is Anthropomorphic, Mature rated and only a small part of a very extensive franchise tounching on several media. Development time for this game alone would take 2-3 years easy, without a large crew and designing and rendering software to fit it...

I won't say no to your offer of the coding for that engine, but I am not currently working with any animators or programmers in that realm of development(2-D side-scrolling, right?). I DO know an ambitious director who is interested in creating/directing/producing Flash games, but I don't know if he has any 2-D s-s in mind...
